Yoji continues to shatter expectations on her new track, ‘Head Can’t Be Turned'.
Featured on the BBC Introducing Hot List, Yoji is the sound of now, and a chart prospect of the future. On her new single, which nods to the phrase coined by viewers on the popular show Love Island, Yoji merges together R&B swagger with the powerhouse vocal deliveries of soul icons such as Aretha Franklin.
Yoji commented on the inspiration behind her new single, saying:
“I grew up listening to confident female vocalist and I would turn to their music as a salvation when I had relationship problems. From the soulful house records my dad would play which featured strong female vocalists such as Sara Devine, India & Julie McKnight to the R&B bands and artists I cherished such as Alicia Keys & Destiny’s Child I gained self-confidence from them. I didn’t have a song to comfort me in the situation I found myself in this time so I wrote ‘Head Can’t Be Turned’. I hope my song can be that salvation for my listeners and remind them not to lose their self-worth in challenging affairs of the heart.”
The London born; Suffolk raised upstart has already won coveted awards such as Fame Music & Coffee House Sessions and the Vodafone Future Breakers, as well as a celebrated performance at the O2 Arena where she supported Kool & The Gang at the Electric Soul Festival.
