Cub Sport | Drive

After premiering on BBC Radio 1 last week, Brisbane’s Cub Sport are thrilled to share ‘Drive’, the beautifully crafted second single from their forthcoming album LIKE NIRVANA.

Due to the pandemic and the effect it has had on the world and music industry, Cub Sport have also announced a new release date for LIKE NIRVANA. The album will now be released 24 July via Cub Sport Records/Believe and is available for pre-order here.

Speaking of the track, frontperson Tim Nelson says:

“Recognising the magic of life while it’s happening is something really special and that’s what Drive is to me; capturing that feeling. It’s a love song saying “You’re a dream and I still can’t believe you give a damn about me.”. There’s a purity to Drive that gives me the same warm feeling I get from Cocteau Twins ‘Cherry-coloured Funk,’ Cyndi Lauper ‘True Colours,’ and Mazzy Star ‘Fade Into You.’ It feels like the type of song that soundtracks a particular moment or time in your life.”

‘Drive’ follows the release of the gritty, introspective slow-burn ‘Confessions’. Following a triple j premiere, the track received praise and support from Rolling Stone, NME and i-D, among others, and also received key playlist support from both Spotify and Apple Music.

With over 100 million streams on Spotify and 1.2 million monthly listeners, Cub Sport continue to be a leading force in Australian pop. 2019 proved to be a huge year for the band with their eponymously titled third album scoring feature album on triple j, number 1 on the Australian Album Chart and a 12 week run in the Independent Album Chart. Cub Sport won worldwide acclaim, with critics and fans alike praising Tim Nelson’s frank and honest songwriting.

The year also saw the band head out on a huge European tour, which included a sold out show at London’s Scala and score a places in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2019 with ‘Party Pill’, and the Hottest 100 of the Decade with their breakout track 'Come On Mess Me Up'.

The new era of Cub Sport is equal parts exhilarating and heartfelt as they continue to break boundaries, evolve and carve out a space of their own.

LIKE NIRVANA out July 24th.
