Matt Taylor & Kirsty Grant Share Socially Distanced Video For New Track 'Daylight'

Following on from the release of his striking and cinematic track 'Rush', rising Brighton-based artist Matt Taylor has unveiled the music video for his infectious new single 'Daylight', which was co-written with acclaimed emerging Scottish singer / songwriter Kirsty Grant.

'Daylight' is a journey through self-reflection, despair, hope and euphoria. With honest lyricism and a vibrant indie-pop energy, the track encapsulates the reality of today, anxiety and frustration of lockdown, and the burning desire to see someone you feel connected with, but are being asked to keep your distance from. The track was produced by Afterparty, recorded at the Spotify Secret Genius studio in Metropolis. Both artists have different interpretations of the song.

Matt says,

“It’s a happy song, which is a nice change for me! What I like about it is that everyone seems to have a different interpretation. For me, the chorus is about wanting to be with someone who isn’t afraid to be open about loving you, but for a few other people it’s been about being able to go and see the people you love again, in the daylight.”

Kirsty adds,

"For me, the song reflects the “interesting” year we’ve had. The line “2020 hindsight” in the chorus was written meaning 2020 vision, but looking back, it ironically represents looking back on the year that was 2020. To me, it is about a relationship and wanting to be able to experience things in real life, not just online."

The music video is a refection of the new normal, where Zoom and FaceTime are the new standard. It was shot entirely remotely with a laptop as the pair followed social distancing rules due to lockdown.

Speaking about the video, they said,

"We decided that building it up and making it a full music video for the track would not only be so fitting for the song’s message of online/zoom/digital socialising, but also would be the best and safest option we had for making a video."

Matt Taylor draws influence from contemporaries such as Julia Michaels, Charlie XCX and The Weeknd and has already garnered acclaim from the likes of BBC Introducing and support from Spotify. Kirsty Grant produces infectious pop tunes awash with allure and released her third single in 2020 in the form of the evocative 'Back to Sleep'. Despite only releasing her debut single last year, Kirsty has already received high praise from influential tastemakers. She is inspired by the likes of Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez, Kirsty’s pop-driven sounds have earned her over 600k streams on Spotify so far.

'Daylight' is out now.
