Get To Know | laronge

Fresh faces to the Bristol music scene, production duo laronge have released their new single 'Sakura'.

Confidently striding back into the alternative hip-hop territory with the glitch ladened track, 'Sakura' puts them firmly on the map as ones to watch in the UK circuit. The track follows their previous release 'Salvador Campos' which was created with 50's American and 60's South African jazz samples inspired by a deep hip-hop groove, and is taken off their upcoming EP.

We had a chat with the pair as part of our Get To Know series...

Please introduce yourselves and tell us a fun fact about you... "Josh and Kambiz from laronge. Josh's Beep Test time is only two shy of Brett Emerton, Blackburn Rovers legend and if Kambiz were to play in the Premier League he'd have the longest surname 'Fathollahzadeh-Aghdam'.

Where are you from? Do you feel your surroundings have impacted your sound at all? "UK and Iran. I guess your environment informs your personality. But there’s so much access to music, art and culture now that there’s no excuse for any limitations on the sound you want to create." How did you meet each other and when did you start making music as a pair? "Ages ago and not soon enough." Is there a story behind the name? "Josh’s gamer tag." How would you sum up your sound in the form of a hashtag? "#Gesamtkuntswerk" Who would be your dream collaboration? "Cruyff, Maradona and Picasso

Or Charlie Puth" You’ve just released your new single ‘Sakura’. Tell us a bit about it! "No matter which juncture you are at in your life, there’s always room to grow and blossom." The track is part of your EP! Were there any key influences when writing or recording? "We try and steer clear of any specific influences. it’s more a confluence of numerous vibes we like." Do you have a favourite lyric or track from the EP, if so, which one and why? "We like different tracks and lyrics for different reasons. Depends what mood we're in. 'You're ageless like Miura' is up there. If you know you know."

What’s coming up for you guys in 2021? "The world’s our oyster."

'Sakura' is out now.
