Get To Know | Billy Lockett

Billy Lockett has returned with his first ever duet, a breath-taking collaboration with Violet Skies. 'Talk' arrived alongside the announcement of Billy's new EP 'Reflections' which is due for release on March 19th.

Written by the pair, the dual performance sees them sharing vocal duties, effortlessly conveying feelings of vulnerability and laying bare the obvious emotion behind the track. It is both artists’ ability to project such inward emotions which gives the song such a special feel. Lyrically, ‘Talk’ heavily nods towards the overarching theme of the EP, as Billy reflects on relationship miscommunication and not being able to say what you really mean to a partner. Both this track and the EP as a whole are about looking at yourself and thinking - Okay, what are the problems? Why are things not working in my life, and how can I fix them?

“Maybe a lot of the songs are to do with myself, and I’m projecting troubles onto relationships. In that sense, this song is almost the opposite of another song on the EP called ‘Silence’. It’s a desperate plea, saying “please can we talk about this, and try to fix it?”.

Being the first duet he has recorded, it was creatively rewarding to work with another artist so closely on such a personal track, and being a huge fan of Violet Skies’ music anyway, Billy loved every minute of their work together.

We had a chat with Billy on the release and more as part of our Get To Know series...
